Appliance Repair FAQs:
Refrigerator/Freezer Repair
Why is my refrigerator’s temperature warming up?
The condenser coils for the refrigerator and freezer must be cleaned every 6 months.  If your coils don’t get cleaned properly not only will your unit start warming up but the life of the compressor will be reduced causing an expensive repair.
Why is my refrigerator leaking water on the bottom?
If you have top mount freezer refrigerator, the typical problem could be a defrost tube or a plugged defrost drain funnel. Some models allow access to the defrost drain area where the funnel can be removed and cleaned.
Why are the sides of my refrigerator/freezer are hot to the touch?
Some refrigerator models have part of the condenser coils foamed into the walls of the cabinet.  If the refrigerator or freezer has a forced air condenser under the unit and the coils are not cleaned, the sides of the refrigerator can get hot.  Also, if the unit is warmer than normal this could also be a cause of why the sides are too hot to touch.
Dishwasher Repair
My dishwasher is leaving spots on my dishes, what should I do?
Most dishwasher brands have a wetting agent dispenser that must be filled from time to time.  The wetting agent helps prevent spotting on dishes.  If you have hard water, you might try changing detergents with anti-spotting formula.
How can I make my dishwasher clean my dishes better?
To begin, do you have hard water? A good way to tell is if you see a white residue buildup in your dishwasher or around your water faucets. Those are mineral deposits from hard water. If you have hard water, you absolutely must use an additive in combination with your regular soap. However, if you have a water softener in your home, use a little less detergent, as it tends to foam more. Secondly, how hot is the water out of your sink? Your water temperature will make a huge difference in how well your unit cleans. Typically, your water temperature should be around 140 degrees. Always run your water at the sink until it is hot prior to starting the machine. These tips should make a difference.
Oven Repair
Why does my gas oven glow like it is hot, even when it is not heating?
The glow is caused by a “glow-bar” igniter that is used to ignite the gas in your oven. It glows as it is heating up, but unless it reaches the correct temperatur. If your gas valve does not open then the gas will not ignite and your oven will not heat up. If that is your case you probably need to replace it with a new one.
Is there a way to calibrate the temperature in my oven?
Yes, some oven brands have instructions on how to calibrate the temperature in their owner’s manual.
Washer Repair
Whats happing my washer keeps vibrating out of control?
It might be that your washer is off balance. Make your washing machine is level and that all four feet are set on the floor. Another issue that your washer may be having is a sorting problem. Sometimes sorting the clothes not only by color but also by the wet weight will eliminate most off balance conditions.
How do I get rid of the mildew or moldy smell coming from my washing machine?
If your machine is a front loader there are additives you can purchase from your local appliance parts dealer that works great. Also, you should leave the door to your washer open after the cycle is done so that the moist can breath and so that it won’t get trapped in your washer.
Dryer Repair
My clothes are taking too long to dry. What can be the issue?
This problem is usually caused by a restriction in the vent. It can also be that the venting material is too far away from where your dryer is located. If the venting material is too long, it  should be shortened as much as possible. A quick way to test the airflow running through the vent is to turn on the dryer without any clothes in the dryer. The amount of airflow should be equal to the amount of air exhausting from the dryer without the vent attached.
Why has my dryer stopped heating completely?
There may be a problem with the circuit breaker, make sure you have the correct power to the dryer.  On some brands of dryers the motor will run, but will not heat.  The circuit breaker for the dryer is 240 volts and the motor requires 120 volts to operate.  The remaining 120 volts is required to power up the element on an electric dryer.
